This title is one of my favorites by Abba: “The winner take it all…” exactly what is supposed to happen. The lyrics express more a loss than a win and to be honest I always have to hold my tears when listen to it. Ok, I don’t want to be too sentimental here, after all the winner takes it all can also be referred to a winning object as for instance the winner of the last Noelanders Trophy, the amazing wild olive (olea europeae subsp. silvestris). Although it was forbidden to take pictures at the show (a smart decision btw), I have seen some pictures on the web, not all were the best quality and judging by those images I was not amazed by this tree. But then the latest issue of Bonsai Art came out and just one look blew me away. The Olive tree was, is, a vision. Such a presence on paper, I can’t even imagine in real the strength and majesty this tree can conjure up in the onlooker.
From a newbie perspective I will say: “Big tree, great bark, small leaves, very nice ramification” but as I look closely and “feel the tree” a bit more I could reformulate my opinion. This tree has been loved and cared by the same person for at least 15 maybe 20 years and just to know that such a tree has so many more years to come and will hopefully still be cared for and loved by the right bonsai lover gave me a feeling of happiness. In my opinion, as a learning newbie, this is an approach that more bonsai lovers should attempt when visiting a show.
The decision to ban picture-taking at the Noerlanders was at first very criticized, because of the lack of information, because not everybody could visit the show and see the trees, because of the various vain reasons but after all I believe this was a wake-up call for all the narcissist bonsai lovers that like to criticize. Finally everybody attending the show could really look at the trees and “feel” them in a new, peacefully contemplative kind of way.

Il testo è melanconico e a volte mi sembra più celebrativo di una sconfitta che di una vittoria e, per essere sinceri, a volte devo trattenere le lacrime quando l’ascolto. Bene, non diventiamo sentimentali qui, per diamine il titolo parla comunque di una vittoria!!
Di una vittoria e di un vincitore come per esempio il vincitore dell’ultimo Noelanders Trophy: il magnifico olivo selvatico (olea europeae subsp. Silvestris). Sebbene fosse proibito prendere foto all’esposizione, ho visto delle immagini ” corsare” postate sul web ma non ne ero proprio sbalordita. Ma poi, sull’ultima edizione di Bonsai Art , faceva da copertina e un solo sguardo alla foto mi ha stupefatto. Questo olivo era, è, una visione.
Se solo la immagine stampata su carta fa quest’effetto, mi chiedo dal vivo con quale forza e maestà può impressionare lo spettatore.
Come neofita direi: ”Albero grande, bellissima corteccia, foglie piccole, bella ramificazione.” Ma se guardo la pianta più attentamente riformulerei la mio opinione. L’albero è stato amato e curato dalla stessa persona per gli ultimi 15 forse 20 anni e se penso che sarà amato e curato per molti anni a venire, la sola idea mi regala un sentimento di benessere. A mio parere, questo approccio dovrebbe essere preso molto più in considerazione quando si visita un’esposizione.
La decisione di vietare di prendere fotografie alla mostra Noerlanders è stata molto criticata, perché manca lo scambio d’informazione, perché non tutti possono assistere allo show, per una varietà di ragioni insignificanti ma alla fine penso che è stato un campanello d’allarme per tutti i narcisisti bonsaisti a cui piace criticare. Finalmente il pubblico poteva guardare gli alberi e “sentirli” in un modo diverso, più pacifico, più meditativo.
